Description
In eighteen hundred and fourty-one
My corduroy britches I put on
I put my corduroy britches on
To work upon the railway
Metal at Edge Hill presents The Suitcase Ensemble’s contemporary music hall Edgy: The Railway Cabaret.
Edgy is a hugely entertaining and thought-provoking anthology of music, theatre, poetry and comedy, inspired and influenced by the music and stories of local working communities. This event is part of the Liverpool Working Class Life and Music Festival 2011, the largest celebration of working people on the planet.
This special edition of Edgy sees the return of The Suitcase Ensemble’s particular blend of quirky theatricality, poignancy and absurd humour. Audiences can expect distinctive renditions of railway folk songs, as well as original songs and material inspired by testimonies from Metal’s Edge Hill Archive.
The Suitcase Ensemble are delighted to be joined by local musician and poet Rebecca Joy Sharp performing her acclaimed ‘Ballad of Juniper Davy and Sonny Lumiere’, Chinese dance company China Pearl premiering a new work inspired by the birth of rail travel, Kensington-based musical duo Insanity Hurts presenting their compelling fusion of hip hop and storytelling, and sporadic comic surprises from The RailfanThree.
